Gambia 2018

We took a group of young people on a volunteering expedition to The Gambia, West Africa. The young people worked together for nearly 2 year to raise money to pay for the volunteering expedition, this trip took place in November 2018. During the time in the Gambia the young people worked and lived in a local village and undertook projects which included renovating a school both inside and out and supporting the local community to improve their quality of life. This was a fantastic opportunity which they absolutely relished, being transported to an alien culture in a polarized environment was both challenging and compelling for young people whilst being intensely euphoric. Both organisations the young people worked with whilst  in Gambia have vocalized how brilliant the group was and that they were the best group of young people and youth workers that they have ever worked with in Gambia. They acknowledge that they were a credit to Pennywell Youth Project. Young people were exposed to harsh living and working conditions and community life in a third world country and they constantly carried out their duties and responsibilities with humility, sensitivity, and respect and dignity.
